The RNI memories of Michael Downing for this week

Saturday 1 July 1972

There is a new style jingle to promote the mobile discotheque this week and the show advertised is tonight at 20.00 featuring Ferry Maat and Alfred Lagarde. There are new adverts in the Dutch service today for Seven Up and quite a few different ones for Coca Cola. This evening, neither Tony Allan nor Terry Davis present programmes, but are the newsreaders. The programme schedule is:

19.00 Paul May (International Prediction Hit 40)

22.00 Arnold Layne (Reviews)

23.00 Arnold Layne (Kent Request Hour)

24.00 - 7.00 Peter Chicago

The Peter Chicago show is to become a regular feature on RNI and will happen twice a month. The 49 metre shortwave transmissions, which have been off the air for the past few days, return tonight at 21.30. A lot of new records are reaching the Mebo 2 very quickly now.

Sunday 2 July 1972

With news read by Tony Allan, Terry Davis and Arnold Layne, tonight's programmes are:

19.00 Arnold Layne (Hitback Show)

21.00 Paul May (Cloud Nine)

23.00 Tony Allan (Kent Request Hour)

24.00 - 3.00 Terry Davis

Paul May does not like the new record by Joe Tex - he says that he thinks it's diabolical. The signal this evening is very good on medium wave.

Monday 3 July 1972

There is a new set of hitpick jingles today featuring the voice of Tony Allan. Tonight's programmes are:

19.00 Paul May

21.00 Tony Allan

23.00 Terry Davis (Kent Request Hour)

24.00 - 3.00 Arnold Layne

Newsreaders are Tony Allan and Arnold Layne.

Tuesday 4 July 1972

There is a tender today, which takes off Hans ten Hooge and, despite him saying yesterday that he would be staying on board for another week, Tony Allan. Gerard Smit returns to the Mebo 2, as does Mike Ross after a long absence.

Tonight's programmes are:

19.00 Paul May

21.00 Terry Davis

23.00 Terry Davis (Kent Request Hour)

24.00 - 3.00 Arnold Layne

News is read by Terry Davis, Arnold Layne and Paul May in that order.

Wednesday 5 July 1972

Gerard Smit takes over on Ochtendeditie this morning. RNI closes at midnight for aerial maintenance, so tonight's programmes are:

19.00 Paul May

21.00 Terry Davis

23.00 - 24.00 Arnold Layne (Kent Request Hour)

News is read by Terry Davis, Arnold Layne and Paul May.

Thursday 6 July 1972

Leo van der Goot goes off on shore leave and Nico Steenbergen returns. Nico takes over on Driemaster.

International service programmes follow the same schedule as on Tuesday and the newsreaders are also the same.

Friday 7 July 1972

The programme schedule is the same as yesterday, with the addition of a Skyline programme from 3.00 to 6.00 on Saturday morning, hosted by Mike Ross. News is read by Terry Davis, Arnold Layne and Paul May. The signal after 22.00 on medium wave is very good, probably the best that it's been this year.

Tony Berk and Tony Allan appear in a mobile discotheque today.
