Slade verwelkomen we
deze week als hoogste nieuwe op nummer 25 met Take me bak ‘ome. Het mooie
Where van Greenfield en Cook komt nieuw binnen op nummer 30 en op 33 komt een
van mijn persoonlijke favorieten binnen
: Taos New Mexico van R. Dean Taylor. Margrietje van Louis Neefs komt niew
binnen op nummer 37 en herinner ik me als een typisch 1972 zomerplaatje. Mary
has a little lamb van de Wings is deze week de treiterschijf en zo’n ander
1972 zomerplaatje is de kanskaart van het ochtendeditieteam : Zomerzon van de
Makkers. Lang voordat-ie echt bekend werd in Nederland verkoos Ferry Maat Al
Stewart al tot de zanger van zijn kanskaart : Amsterdam. De commercial voor

The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this week in June 1972 Saturday 3 June 1972 The new edition
of Radio magazine, which was advertised as having an article on "Tony
Allan leaving RNI !!!" does not have any such thing in it. The new
advert for Muziek Parade has extracts of Tony Allan from the end of test
transmissions in February 1971 and also a bit of an old Joost de Draaier
programme. Leo van der Goot
has an interview with Focus at 18.30 in Driemaster today and International
service programmes are: 19.00 Tony Allan (International Prediction
Hit 40) 22.00 Terry Davis (Reviews) 23.00 Terry Davis (Kent Request Hour) 24.00 - 7.00 Rob Eden and Tony Allan The marathon
programme from 24.00 to 7.00 features the favourite records of Rob Eden and
Tony Allan. Rob Eden especially features the Moody Blues' "Days of
future passed" LP. Terry Davis and Tony Allan read the news. A mobile
discotheque today features Tony Berk and Brian McKenzie. Sunday 4 June 1972 The latest
edition of "Nordsee goes DX" is broadcast at 10.00 this morning on
shortwave. This features "The RNI Story Part 2", which takes the
story from the end of the Kees Manders raid on 29 August 1970 to the end of
test transmissions in February 1971. No extracts from
29 August 1970 are featured today, but there are extracts from the first
"Nordsee goes DX" programme in September 1970, followed by Alan
West handing back to the Dave Rogers show, plus a lot of extracts from the
final hour of transmissions from 10.00 to 11.00 on 24 September 1970,
featuring Alan West and Andy Archer. These include the Bullova time check at
10.00, Alan West reading out a list of the 22 DJs who worked on RNI in 1970, Andy
Archer describing Mark Wesley as "One of our most competent DJs, also a
singer and a producer - one of whose masterpieces goes like this..."
followed by Mark's reworking of the piece from "Butch Cassidy and the
Sundance Kid", known as the RNI Boom Tune. The last five minutes from
10.55 to 11.00 were played in their entirety, including the end of "The
long and winding road" by the Beatles, Alan West and Andy Archer saying
goodbye, "Peace" by Peter, the 11.00 time check and "Man of
action". Next piece was
Edwin Bollier talking about the closedown in German, then some bits of early
test transmissions from 1971 ("Young gifted and black" and
"The long and winding road" were included), Stevi Merike giving out
the frequencies and appealing for reception reports, giving the Zurich
mailing address, then Alan West saying "It's 1.56pm and the end of test
transmissions. Full transmissions from RNI begin in four minutes". After
the DX programme had finished, Rob Eden filled in the rest of the hour to
11.00 with a tape of Australian radio featuring stations 2SM and 2UE in
Sydney. He then played records up to 11.00, including the original version of
the Boom Tune. International
service programmes this evening are: 19.00 Tony Allan (Hitback Show) 21.00 Terry Davis (Cloud Nine) 23.00 Terry Davis (Kent Request Hour) 24.00 - 3.00 Rob Eden Cloud Nine
returns this week after its break last week. Tony Berk and
Brian McKenzie appear in a mobile discotheque in Belgium today. Monday 5 June 1972 "Nordsee
goes DX" is repeated on shortwave at 20.00 this evening. The evening's
programmes are: 19.00 Terry Davis 21.00 Rob Eden 23.00 Rob Eden (Kent Request Hour) 24.00 - 3.00 Tony Allan Terry Davis was
cracking a lot of jokes in his show. Tuesday 6 June 1972 Rob Eden goes
off on shore leave and Arnold Layne returns to the Mebo 2. This alters the
International service programme schedule to: 19.00 Terry Davis 21.00 Arnold Layne 23.00 Arnold Layne (Kent Request Hour) 24.00 - 3.00 Tony Allan All three DJs on
board read the news. Terry Davis has
a competition, in which he plays a recording of Al Stewart's "Songs out
of clay" which is sung by an RNI DJ. The competition is to work out
which DJ is singing. Terry has also recorded a high pitched rendition of
"Metal Guru", which he plays over the top of the T Rex disc. Wednesday 7 June 1972 The programme
schedule is the same as yesterday. Terry Davis has a lot of oldies by Adam
Faith on his show this evening. Thursday 8 June 1972 Leo van der Goot
and Hans ten Hooge go off on shore leave and Nico Steenbergen, Gerard Smit
and Paul May return on the tender. Nico takes over Driemaster and tonight's
International service programmes are: 19.00 Paul May 21.00 Arnold Layne 23.00 Terry Davis (Kent Request Hour) 24.00 - 3.00 Tony Allan Paul May almost
gave away the answer to Terry Davis's competition and didn't play the record
all the way through either. Newsreaders today are Terry Davis and Arnold
Layne. Friday 9 June 1972 Gerard Smit
takes over on Ochtendeditie this morning and the Skyline programme from 3.00
to 6.00 on Saturday morning is hosted by Paul May. New records
