The RNI memories of Michael Downing for this week

Saturday 8 April 1972

The Kop Op Special programme this morning is presented by Gerard Smit. There are two mobile discotheques advertised for today and both of them are supposed to feature Tony Berk and Mike Ross, although Mike is on board the Mebo 2 so won't be appearing.

Tonight's programmes are:

18.00 Rob Eden (International Prediction Hit 40)

 21.05 Brian McKenzie

23.00 Brian McKenzie (Kent Request Hour)

 24.00 Rob Eden

 3.00 - 7.00 Mike Ross

Brian McKenzie and Rob Eden read the news. In the Top 40 show, which overran by five minutes, no Barry Martin hitpick was played, so it's reasonable to assume that he has left RNI without having presented a single programme.

Today was another date mentioned in reports for the start of the World Service, but nothing has transpired.

Sunday 9 April 1972

Hans ten Hooge hosts Kop Op and Gerard Smit presents Driemaster.

International service programmes are:

 18.00 Brian McKenzie (Hitback Show)

 20.00 Rob Eden (Cloud Nine)

23.00 Mike Ross (Kent Request Hour)

 24.00 - 3.00 Brian McKenzie

Brian McKenzie and Rob Eden read the news.

Monday 10 April 1972

Hans ten Hooge takes back Driemaster today and programmes this evening are:

 18.00 Rob Eden

 21.00 Brian McKenzie

23.00 Brian McKenzie (Kent Request Hour)

 24.00 - 3.00 Rob Eden

The news service is a year old today and reading news this evening are Rob Eden and Brian McKenzie. Rob Eden has some new jingles today made by Brian McKenzie.

Tuesday 11 April 1972

Hans ten Hooge goes off on shore leave and Nico Steenbergen and Tony Allan return. Nico takes over on Driemaster and International service programmes are:

 18.00 Rob Eden

 21.00 Tony Allan

23.00 Tony Allan (Kent Request Hour)

 24.00 - 3.00 Brian McKenzie

John de Mol is on board the Mebo 2 today and tomorrow. Tony Allan, who refers to himself as "the delightful Tony Allan" has made a new promo for the Brian McKenzie show, which goes "Won't you come along and listen to the Brian McKenzie show, the Brian McKenzie show (far be it from me to try and influence you, but you really should listen to Brian McKenzie tonight at midnight). He's on the air from 12 till 3 on 220 that's Radio North Sea. Won't you come along and listen to the Brian McKenzie show today, that's nice".

Tony Allan and Brian McKenzie read the news.

Wednesday 12 April 1972

The programme schedule is the same as yesterday. RNI is off the air on medium wave for about a minute at 21.25, but no reason is given for the break in transmissions.

Thursday 13 April 1972

Gerard Smit, Mike Ross and Brian McKenzie go off on shore leave, as does Rob Eden, despite saying last night that he would be staying on board for another week. Paul May, Terry Davis and Leo van der Goot return. Programmes this evening are:

 18.00 Terry Davis

 21.00 Paul May

23.00 Paul May (Kent Request Hour)

 24.00 - 3.00 Tony Allan

Tony Allan and Terry Davis read the news.

Friday 14 April 1972

The Tony Allan show is extended through the Skyline slot to make it a six hour marathon show from 24.00 to 6.00 on Saturday morning. Tony Allan and Terry Davis read the news.
