You’ve got your troubles. To know you is to love you.

The RNI memories of Michael Downing for this week in 1974

There was a change to the International service DJ line up in the last week of May 1974. Graham Gill left the Mebo 2 for the final time to rejoin Radio Caroline and in his place Jason Wolfe joined RNI. Jason was a former colleague of Don Allen on Radio Caroline North. He joined RNI right at the end of May 1974, but only lasted just over a month on the station.

By Friday 31 May 1974 the International service DJs on board were Don Allen, Robin Banks and Jason Wolfe. Don Allen was on board for the whole of the week commencing Saturday 25 May 1974 and had presented the Toppers 20 show on Friday 24 May 1974, which, as usual, played the Top 20, the Smash Play and the LP Top 10 for the coming week. No. 1 for the week was "I see a star" by Mouth and MacNeal and the highest new entry, at no. 11, was "Hey Rock'n'Roll", the first hit by Showaddywaddy. The Smash Play was "Rikki don't lose that number" by Steely Dan and the Top 10 LPs included new LPs by Sparks, Peter Frampton, the Meters, Jimmy Cliff, the Eagles and PFM.

On the Dutch service, the weekday programme schedule remained the same as it had been for some time:

 6.00 Dick de Graaf

9.00 John de Mol Jr (Branding)

 10.00 Ted Bouwens

 12.00 Tony Berk

 14.00 Ferry Maat

 16.00 Leo van der Goot

18.00 Buitengaats (live from the Mebo 2).

By now the presenters of Buitengaats were Gerard Smit and Eric Post, with Marc van Amstel now a relief DJ based on land, filling in for DJs on holiday. Tony Berk was on holiday at the end of May 1974 and so Marc van Amstel was presenting Tony's 12.00 to 14.00 programme, although Tony had pre-recorded the Prijs Bewust sections at 13.00. Eric Post was on board on 25 May 1974 and therefore presented Buitengaats.

Ferry Maat had returned from holiday during the previous week and presented the Super Top 50 as usual on Saturday 25 May 1974. The Troef 20 was presented by Leo van der Goot on 25 May 1974. Leo had presented the most Troef 20s up to that point, but 25 May 1974 was to be his last one.
