Billy don’t be a hero van Paper Lace zien we voor het eerst in de Top 50 op nummer 44. De treiterschijf van deze week is werkelijk een genot voor het oor : West Virgina van Cape Canary. Het plaatje van Tony Berk blijft maar in de Troef 20 hangen, een Top 50 notering zit er nog niet in. Leo van der Goot heeft deze week WOLD van Harry Chapin tot kanskaart gekozen, toepasselijk ?

Following the departure of Hans ten Hooge in March 1974, there was a reorganisation of the Dutch newsreading team. Marc van Amstel moved on land to record programmes as a relief DJ for other DJs who were on holiday or unavailable. On Saturday 13 April 1974, Marc presented Driemaster, including the Troef 20. The regular presenters of of Buitengaats, now the only programme presented live from the Mebo 2, now became Erik Post and Gerard Smit on alternate weeks. Herman de Bruin joined the newsreading team to replace Hans ten Hooge. Another change on the Dutch service was that, from the beginning of April 1974, the Technici had their own Kanskaart.

On the International service Graham Gill presented the Toppers 20 programme on Friday 12 April 1974, with “The cat crept in” by Mud at nr 1 and the only entry that was not a British hit being “Soft soul boogie woogie” by Wilson Pickett at nr. 19. The Smash Play for the week commencing 12 April 1974 was “Johnny B Goode” by Jet, which is not amongst the best remembered Smash Plays. There was also a Top 10 LPs, as usual not in any particular order, but this week including “See see the sun” by Kayak, a group that the International service of RNI played a lot in 1974.

Sunday evening 14 April 1974 was filled with RNI’s usual specialist shows, with Roger Kent presenting the Hitback Show at 20.00, followed by Graham Gill on the Request Show at 22.00 and then Rob Eden presenting the Contemporary Music Show from midnight.
