Starr is deze week de hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer op nummer 22. Op 32-34 komen
drie duitstalige platen binnen, gezongen door twee Grieken en een Duitser :
Demis Roussos, Vicky Leandros en Jurgen Marcus. Een andere duitstalige plaat
stijgt deze week maar liefst 23 plaatsen : Bernd Cluver met Der kleine Prinz.
Marie Osmond voert deze week de Troef 20 aan met papieren rozen, twee
plaatsen lager vind je de rest van de Osmond familie met Oneway ticket to
anywhere. Led Zeppelin komt nieuw binnen op nummer 19 in de Troef 20 met
D’yer Maker en Deep purple is deze week de kanskaart van Leo van der Goot met
Super Trouper. Verder nog de Who, de Edgar Winter Group en Uriah Heep in de

The RNI memories
of Michael Downing for this period The week commencing 3 November 1973 saw the
last significant changes in the programme schedule
of the Dutch service, following the departures of Nico
Steenbergen and Peter Holland. There would be some
changes of DJs and newsreaders broadcasting live from the Mebo
2 in 1974, but the programme schedule would not
undergo any radical changes between now and 31 August 1974. Saturday 3 November 1973 The records which I have heard played
most on RNI over the seven days to Friday 2 November 1973 have been:
This morning’s Peter Holland programme will be his last for RNI as he, like Nico Steenbergen, is leaving
the station. Hans ten Hooge thanks him for two and
a half years of radio shortly before the 9.00am news. This morning’s sport programme is presented by Henk
van Reijendam and Ted Bouwens
presents the oldies show this afternoon, in which he has an interview with
Willem Duyn. Leo van der Goot will from now on be the only presenter of Driemaster. This evening’s International service programmes are: 20.00 Robin Banks 22.00 Don Allen (Country’n’Western
Jamboree) 24.00 Rob Eden 3.00 – 7.00 Robin Banks A mobile discotheque today features Ferry
Maat. Ferry is also heard today in an advertisement
on Radio Veronica – one which RNI also uses. Sunday 4 November 1973 There is a new Sunday programme
schedule for the Dutch service from today. The complete schedule for today

programme features only Dutch music. Ferry Maat transfers his Soul Show from Friday to Sunday
afternoon. On the International service, Mike Ross again talks about the
closure of RNI, saying that, as far as he knows, the station will close for
good on 31 December 1973, although it may be around for a short while after
that. Earlier in the week he had not been so sure, however, and there is too
much new happening on RNI at present for it to be contemplating closing so
soon. News during the early evening recorded programmes
is read by Rob Eden and a mobile discotheque today features Ferry Maat. Monday 5 November 1973 Again new programmes

Allen Rob Eden says that, despite what Mike
Ross said in the hitback show last night, RNI will
not be closing at the end of December 1973 as they have received no notice of
an impending closure. Besides, the earliest that the Dutch anti zeezender wet can become law is now July 1974, about nine
months later than originally thought. The Dutch service has a new jingle to
introduce the news today. Tuesday 6 November 1973 There is a Force 8 gale on the North Sea
for most of today. Consequently there is no tender today. Buitengaats
with Marc van Amstel runs from 18.00 to 20.00
today. Buitengaats will be for two hours in this
time slot between Tuesday and Friday. It is reported in the news that Radio
Condor has broken its anchor chain and is heading towards Zandvoort
beach. It is also reported that Radio Atlantis owner Adriaan
van Landschoot has recently bought the Radio Condor
ship. Wednesday 7 November 1973 Despite heavy seas all
of today, the tender comes out to the Mebo 2
twice. The first time it brings some programmes for
the Dutch service, although it was not early enough to bring today’s tape for
Branding, which is instead hosted live from the Mebo
2 by Marc van Amstel, with Rob Eden and Robin Banks
as technicians. The second tender of the day takes off Marc van Amstel and brings back Hans Molenaar,
who takes over Buitengaats this evening. Hans
reintroduces the “Drie Beatles” spot at 19.30,
which Nico Steenbergen
used to have at the same time. There is also a change of the ship’s crew
today. Dutch news is read by Hans ten Hooge, Marc
van Amstel and Hans Molenaar.
Dick de Graaf interviews a member of Tiger on his programme. Rob Eden refers to RNI as “The 50KW tower of
power”. Thursday 8 November 1973 There is now an extended Dutch news
bulletin at 18.00, lasting 5 minutes. The new news jingle introduced on
Monday has been dropped already though. Robin Banks says that he and Rob Eden
may be going to Jamaica for the next two weeks. Friday 9 November 1973 It is another rough day on the North Sea,
so there is no tender. The second hour of Buitengaats
on Friday is now to feature English groups of the early to mid-60s, so there
are a lot of Rolling Stones tracks played today, as well as the “Drie Beatles” spot. This evening’s programmes
are: 20.00 Rob Eden (Top 30) 22.00 Brian McKenzie (Rock’n’Roll
Special) 24.00 Don Allen 3.00 – 6.00 Robin Banks Rob Eden sounds very tired on the Top 30
show today. The new International service Smash Play – “Street life” by Roxy
Music – has not yet arrived on board the Mebo 2.
There is also no tape for the Rock’n’Roll Special,
so tonight’s programme consists of one hour
repeated from last week’s programme and one hour
from the week before. Don Allen, who reads the news during this programme, makes it clear that it is a repeat. Then the new records that I heard for the
first time on RNI between 3 and 9 November 1973:
