Alice Cooper is deze week de hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer op nummer 18 met No more Mr Nice Guy. Gerrit Dekzijl horen we voor ’t eerst in de Top 50 op nummer 28 met Ik ben Gerrit. Het mooie Take me home country roads van Olivia Newton John komt nieuw binnen op nummer 47. De Detroit Emeralds zijn treiterschijf deze week met Feel the need in me. Het singletje lag toen in de winkel met de tekst “Treiterschijf Radio Noordzee” op de hoes afgedrukt. Het prachtige You got me anyway van de Sutherland Brothers komt nieuw binnen op nummer 16 in de Troef 20. Jammer dat dit nummer zo weinig gedaan heeft in Nederland. Het Driemaster team heeft Good time coming van Bitch tot kanskaart gekozen, qua muziekgenre wel een toepasselijke keuze voor de Driemaster crew.

The RNI memories of Michael Downing for May 1973

The Dutch service had lost Vader Abraham in April 1973. Pierre Kartner moved to Radio Veronica, where he presented programmes at weekends right up to 31 August 1974. The main DJ team on the Dutch service was stable from April to May 1973, however, and on 5 May 1973 Dick de Graaf was in the middle of his week on Driemaster and therefore presented the Troef 20. The Super Top 50 was hosted as usual by Ferry Maat.

On the International service, there had also been no DJ changes since Graham Gill had joined in March. Mike Ross presented the Top 30 show from 18.00 to 20.00 on Friday 4 May, which had "Drive In Saturday" by David Bowie at number 1 and "Hell Raiser" by the Sweet as the highest new entry at number 5.

There were as many as 10 records in the International Top 30 this week that were not official Top 50 hits in the UK, as follows:

Amongst the new records that the International service played a lot during the week commencing 5 May 1973 that were not in their Top 30 were:

· Great Expectations - Devil's Gun (also played regularly during the live programmes - Buitengaats and Driemaster - on the Dutch service). This was Ian Anderson's hitpick this week.

· Sands of Time - Down by the river

· Derek and the Dominos - Why does love got to be so bad

· Lloyd Price - Love music (Arnold Layne's hitpick)

· Blue - Red light song

· Eagles - Peaceful easy feeling

The Dutch service played "Beautiful day beautiful night" by Hurricane Smith very regularly in the week commencing 5 May 1973, but it was not a hit.

By the end of May 1973, Ian Anderson had left RNI and was not replaced. The International service then had only 5 DJs, which remained the case until the station closed on 31 August 1974.
