The RNI memories of Michael Downing for this week

Saturday 5 June 1971

Hans ten Hooge presents a programme on the Dutch service today from 10.00 to 12.00, which is to become regular on Saturdays.

International service programmes today are:

 16.00 Crispian St John

 18.00 Alan West

 20.00 Crispian St John

 22.00 Stevi Merike

 24.00 - 3.00 Dave Rogers

Stevi Merike and Alan West read the news. Crispian St John reads out a lot of "On the map" cards today, as he is hoping to wind up the spot soon. Also the Crispian St John show on Saturdays is now to become an oldies programme. The final hour of the Dave Rogers show features records by Lulu, Bob Dylan and the Equals.

Sunday 6 June 1971

The new Sunday schedule for the International service is:

 15.00 Super Hit 50

 18.00 You'll never believe this

 19.00 Lowering of standards

 20.00 Album Show

 21.00 Crispian St John

 23.00 Stevi Merike

 24.00 - 3.00 Dave Rogers

Alan West presents both the Super Hit 50 and Album shows today. Lowering of standards is a programme presented jointly by Stevi Merike and Alan West. Dave Rogers, Crispian St John and Alan West read news today.

Monday 7 June 1971

Crispian St John is forced to go off on the tender today, due to a growth on his neck. This means that today's programmes are:

 16.00 Stevi Merike

 18.00 Alan West

 20.00 Dave Rogers

 22.00 Stevi Merike

 24.00 - 3.00 Dave Rogers

Newsreaders today are Dave Rogers, Alan West and Stevi Merike.

The promo at the start of the International service no longer mentions Tony Allan, which probably confirms that he has left RNI.

Two interviews today - Alan West interviews Greenfield and Cook and Stevi Merike has an interview with Wilma.

Tuesday 8 June 1971

Alan West and Stevi Merike go off on shore leave and Mike Ross returns, along with Tony Allan, although Tony's name is still not featured in the promo at the start of transmissions. This alters the programme schedule to:

 16.00 Mike Ross

 18.00 Dave Rogers

 20.00 Tony Allan

 22.00 Mike Ross

 24.00 - 3.00 Dave Rogers

Dave Rogers and Mike Ross read the news.

Wednesday 9 June 1971

Crispian St John returns to the ship after two days and this means that the programme schedule now becomes:

 16.00 Mike Ross

 18.00 Dave Rogers

 20.00 Crispian St John

 22.00 Tony Allan

 24.00 - 3.00 Dave Rogers

Tony Allan sounds happier today than he did yesterday. Tony reads the news, as does Mike Ross.

Thursday 10 June 1971

The programme schedule is the same as yesterday. Tony Allan, Dave Rogers and Crispian St John are the newsreaders. Blue Mink's "Banner Man" and "Help somebody" by Earth Wind and Fire are both getting a lot of plays on RNI at the moment.

Friday 11 June 1971

Peter Holland now has a four hour show from 6.00 to 10.00, although interrupted from 6.30 to 7.00 by Johan Maasbach, whilst the Jan Van Veen show is reduced to two hours from 10.00 to 12,00.

Mike Ross now has a spot on his show where he says hello to members of scout groups at 17.40.

Newsreaders today are Tony Allan and Mike Ross.
