The RNI memories of Michael Downing for this week

Saturday 29 May 1971

Joost de Draaier presents the Super Top 50 show as usual from 12.00 to 15.00, but Toekomstmuziek from 15.00 to 16.00 is presented by Jan Van Veen.

International service programmes are:

16.00 Tony Allan

18.00 Alan West

20.00 Crispian St John

22.00 Alan West

24.00 - 3.00 Mike Ross

Crispian St John plays a hitback every other record on his programme. Alan West jokes about Crispian "I don't want a record that's going to go into the charts - said Crispian St John while choosing his hitpick - I'll have John Lennon". News is read by Mike Ross, Crispian St John and Tony Allan, but there is a small change to the times of the news bulletins from today - there is now news at both 22.00 and 23.00, rather than only one bulletin at 22.30.

Ferry Maat and Stevi Merike appear in a mobile discotheque today.

Sunday 30 May 1971

Dutch service has Joost de Draaier at 12.00 and Ferry Maat at 13.00, with the morning as normal.

International service programmes are:

15.00 Tony Allan (Super Hit 50)

18.00 Alan West

20.00 Crispian St John

22.00 Alan West

24.00 - 3.00 Mike Ross

Tony Allan misses out nos. 49 and 21 in the Top 50 show, both Dutch records. News is read by Mike Ross and Tony Allan. Tony introduces himself as Fred Smith after Crispian St John made a comment about him.

Jan Van Veen and Dave Rogers appear in today's mobile discotheque.

Monday 31 May 1971

Tony Allan drops all the regular spots from his programme as today is Whit Monday, but still does the Kiddies Story. Crispian St John now has his own hitpick jingle - introduced yesterday actually - and there are new jingles with just the DJ names. The International service programmes follow the same schedule as on Saturday and news is read by Mike Ross, Crispian St John and Tony Allan.

Jan Van Veen and Dave Rogers are the DJs again for today's mobile discotheque.

Tuesday 1 June 1971

Peter Holland presents the Ferry Maat show today. Tony Allan has a cold, which was very evident from the first three quarters of an hour of his show. Tony threatens to cancel all of the regular spots from his programme if he doesn't get any mail for them.

Alan West has received a letter from a listener enclosing a pound note to be put towards the repairs to the Mebo 2 following the bomb attack, but he says that he is going to send it back. There is news of a new show to be presented jointly by Alan West and Stevi Merike. News is read by Mike Ross and Crispian St John.

Wednesday 2 June 1971

No Johan Maasbach this morning and indeed his present series has finished. Therefore Joost Verhoeven presents the half hour from 6.30 to 7.00.

No change to the International service programme schedule and news is read by Mike Ross and Tony Allan.

Thursday 3 June 1971

Mike Ross and Tony Allan leave on the tender and Stevi Merike and Dave Rogers return to the Mebo 2. But, strangely, the 16.00 to 18.00 show is now being referred to as the Mike Ross show rather than the Tony Allan show and Tony is not mentioned at all. Does this mean that he has left?

The changes in the DJs on board mean that the full programme schedule today is:

6.00 Peter Holland

6.30 Joost Verhoeven

7.00 Peter Holland

9.00 Jan Van Veen

12.00 Joost de Draaier

14.00 Ferry Maat

16.00 Crispian St John

18.00 Alan West

20.00 Crispian St John

22.00 Stevi Merike

24.00 - 3.00 Dave Rogers

Newsreaders are Dave Rogers, Stevi Merike and Alan West.

The new programme to be presented jointly by Stevi Merike and Alan West will be called "Lowering of standards".

Friday 4 June 1971

Still no reference to Tony Allan, although the promo at the start of the International service still includes him.

Today's programme schedule is the same as yesterday and news is read by Dave Rogers, Stevi Merike and Alan West.
